DC, Turbo Dan, Mtb Dan, Jon - You guys would have loved todays ride.
Nice temps 65deg warming to 85, very low humidity.
Started out with the Beacon Cycle shop group at 8:00 (Maybe 15 or so).
"Light" SW breeze provided a headwind on the established route (same every
Sat). Warm up pace as usual: 19 - 21. 10 miles or less in the pace goes to
23,24,25 into the wind. Apparently, everyone's legs are feeling good. Sprint
point 1, pace goes to 30+ only slows down due to traffic lite and small
township. Pace goes back to 23 - 25. Second sprint point is the same but
longer, pace goes to 30+. All the while we maintain a constantly rotating
pull pattern. Those not pulling are in the "lounge". The last 10 miles or so
the group gets split by a light. I'm in the latter group. Too close to
finishing I guess for the front group to slow down or they don't realize
what happened. Anyway, we start off after them 25, 26, 27 with me pulling
and can't close the gap. They were doing close to 30 with a front crosswind.
We give up and slow to 23 - 25 and pick up a straggler from the front group.
40 miles of 23+ pace, plus the 8 miles I rode to get there and the 8 miles
back. A total of 56 miles at 21+ avg.
I did find out there were a couple of Cat 3 racers in the group.
