Sun came out about 11:30 so I decided to take a chance. Winds were very strong out of the south at 15-20 coming off the ocean. About 75% of this ride was head wind. I was about 6 miles in when two guys roll up beside me as I'm riding with the wind at 25mph the guy up front on a tri bike looks over and says jump on. So I gladly did. At the next light a few miles down the road we stop to cross highway 17. The tri guy name was Sunny and the other guy his brother were from hickory. They are down for vacation. I could tell Sunny was a strong riding and later on the ride I learn he owns Studio 7 multi sport coaching in hickory. So yes this was a hammer ride for the most part. For the next 20 or so miles we ride into a strong headwind and avg just under 22. Sunny and his brother looking for more miles turn off as I head back. Unfortunately the last 10 ish miles were again headwind and I had no help. My avg for the last part was around 17 and my legs are screaming. Finished with 38 miles and stayed dry. DC
