Spandex in the ICU must have been interesting. Jeff Glover

We waited a few minutes then took off to Packhouse, left on Bloomery. A brief light sprinkle and wet roads to start. Past Merck and right down into industrial complex. Old Raleigh to Rose Hill Church to Wiggins Mill and right to Windmill Road to St. Mary's. Radford to Downing and home on Glendale. 30.5 @ 19.5. I had a very weak day, and gratefully LW and Alan held back and waited every time I dropped. As we passed the hospital it began to sprinkle. My Belgium partners rode on and I pulled in to wait out the sprinkle. Soon the bottom dropped out. Being informed that my SAG wagon would be there after the concert at Fike that was just starting, I rode my bike upstairs to the ICU where a new consultation awaited. The ICU nurses were unimpressed with my non-traditional Wilson attire. Their noses are finely tuned to detect a large spectrum of abnormal conditions. I could not remember whether I had used Eau de COW, or Toilet de Tour - in any case I struck a cord with which they were familiar. Consult completed, rain over rode on home. We had dry roads for half of the ride, and it was a fine ride. Temp dropped 77 to 66 after the rain shower. Again I thank my colleagues for pulling me home. Hoping to beat the rain, or at least circle behind it, we headed through Elm City toward Pinetops in a light rain. As we left the Town Creek area, the rain abated and we sped down Davistown Mercer Road at a 20+ mph pace. The rain held off until we approached Pinetops at which point the bottom dropped out. The group agreed to a short stop at Hardees where the locals questioned our sanity at the same time they gave us a weather report. Dan’s smart phone showed a large area of red and yellow on the radar between Pinetops and Wilson, but we left with hopes of better conditions. We were rewarded with lighter rain as we approached Wilson on Highway 42. LR and I headed home via Tilghman while Dan turned on London Church to add more miles. LR and I finished with 55 miles at an 18.4 mph pace; the route is attached. It was a very interesting day in the saddle and loads of fun in spite of the weather. Dan declared the ride “Aqua Lite” and we all agreed that this qualifies for Belgian points. Many thanks to Dan for his controlled, long pulls to help get LR and I to the end. LR decided that henceforth Dan would be “Gentleman Dan” for his restraint during this ride. I hope the 1:00 ride eluded the hail storm that passed through the area about 3 PM today. My family and I were on Forest Hills as it passed overhead on its way to Elm City. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/160967797 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CyclistsOfWilson-COWs" group.
