Wow! David I'm so sorry to hear that. Those tracks were very rough and at a
strange angle. I know you were sick you just rode so strong. I hope you will be
ok and yes we understand that you had to go. Never gave it any thought.

I have your arm warmer's, they are being washed and ill get them back to you.
They were a life saver thank you so much.

If you need anything just ask.

Ok my turn. Like bob said ride started out at a brisk pace but they did not
seem to have any problems hanging on. Fast forward to the climb at about 32
miles in. I love to attach hills and that one was nice and long. I decided to
just power up and see what I had. Got to the top and started to head down. At
the next turn looked back and no one in slight. I knew bob and Steve were
riding together so I decidedto push on. Got to second rest stop. I had plenty
of water and food so just waved as I past. I was still feeling good. Got into
Oxford and my legs were started to feel it a little but I knew I only had about
12 miles to go. At mile 55 everything changed. Crossed some weird angled RR
tracks and down I went.....VERY hard. Bike went to the left I went to the
right. Down on the pavement sliding right into a mud puddle head first. First
thing I did was look to see where my bike was and make sure i was not going to
get hit by a car. As I picked it up I noticed my fingers bleeding, then the
pain in my hip, then the blood on my elbow and then the pain in my shoulder. So
I stood there for about 20sec trying to get my wits about me again. One car
passed slowing down but did not stop to ask if I was ok. Other lady did slow
down and ask. I said yes and thank you but my hip was on fire. So now I inspect
my bike. Noticed handle bars are crooked and front brakes are locked. I fixed
the brakes but could could fix handle bars. Other then a few scratches and mus
the bike looks okay. I was able to swing my leg over and Mount my bike. Only
about 7 miles to go but wow was it a long 7 miles with road rash on my hip and
burning. A few good hills at the end just to mess with me. Made it back looking
like I had taken my road bike off road. The organizers were great and tended to
me. Mud all over and now I can see the blood coming through my CoWs shorts.
Bike mechanic fixed my handlebars and I cleaned myself up a little. Rain coat
was torn on the right side at my elbow and shoulder, helmet damaged, and gloves
torn. I hung around a little while hoping steve and bob would show but I was
ready for a shower and Ibuprofen. Sorry I did not see you guys at the end but
I'm sure you understand. As for me being sick... Yep still sick and I think i
hacked up more than I took in on the ride. On a positive not: the course was
well marked and it's a great route If you want to do some hill training.
Finished with 19.4 avg. Time for dinner and more Ibuprofen. I'm probably out
tomorrow. DC

Great ride today. Thanks to Bob for being such a great sport when I blew slam
up. First ride that I used all my gears on. I have a lot of work to do. As for
DC being sick, whatever!

Steven Brake, David Caudle and I traveled to Oxford, NC to fight the hills,
rain and wind in Granville County. It was a great route with about 2500 ft
of climbing on low traffic roads; the route is at the link below. The ride
started out with a spirited leadout by DC that took us up and down the hills at
20 mph average. Steven and I stayed with DC until we successfully dropped
him off the front on the big hill near the 32 mile mark. We did not see
him again. Steven and I slogged through the remaining hills and the
headwind (last 10 miles) to finish with an 18 mph average for 63+ miles.
It was a lot of fun.
