Jim was very generous with his report. My ride information is at the link below and shows 19.0 mph for 60.91 miles. I had a great time through all of the suffering. However, I won't be in the front group at future events. My 5 mile "lap" averages are over 21 mph for the first 20 miles and drop precipitously after that due to dropping the guys off the front and fighting the head wind solo.
Dale...I'm in for a B ride tomorrow!! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/179802212 -----Original Message----- From: Jim Davis Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2012 3:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [COWs] Scotland neck report Dale, Wally, Nick, BobL Doc and I headed out from DD at 7:15. COWS set the pace out of the box, Doc sets a fast pace through town at the first turn out of town Nick pops it up to 25, separates the men from boys, backs down to 22/23. Wally Dale, Bob L keep the pressure on. The Roanoake valley boys stay in the pace line and do not hammer away as usual. COWS in the big time. I crash just before the first rest stop. Taking a right turn too fast, there is a median in the turn, jump the median, head for the ditch don't get front wheel up and do an endo into the grass. Nothing broken on me or bike but very sore shoulder. Wally like a good team member brings me back up to Bob and Dale. Nick is waiting at the sag stop. Banana and ibuprofen and we are off. Pick up two guys from Smithfield I think. Bob falls back on the rollers. Second sag stop I decide to ride with Bob who has just done 8/10 miles of solo head wind. Just before we leave Doc rolls up, we wait and all set out together. See a group of three, one in an NC State Jersey( more on him later)up the road, jokingly I say someone to chase down, Bob L takes me seriously and rides them down. They are little slower than us but we are content to sit in and let them do all the head wind work. They stop at the last sag we keep going and grab the tailwind home. The Nick group has finished, showered and are eating, when we roll in, they averaged over 20 mph. Nick has been doing some secret training or is on steroids they way he rode. I was in the running for the best crash award when the afore mentioned NC State guy hit the turn into the parking lot too hot and crashes in the parking lot finish, gets all skinned up, nipped at the line. Everyone rode strong, we averaged 19.7 for 62 miles. Hot shower, cheeseburger, cold soft drink and headed back to Wilson Great day to be on the bike Recovery ride Sunday 2:00 Jim Sent from my iPad -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CyclistsOfWilson-COWs" group.
