Chris Bolt asked for details this morning …..so here you go:  For those new to
the CoWs since late summer or early Fall of last year, I will explain who
the guy in the blue truck that saluted us with his middle finger this morning
on Hornes Church about 6:15.  Last year we were doing our regular day break
rides a few days a week.  A few mornings one week this guy in an old blue chevy
truck would cross the yellow line heading our way (yep head on).  The first few
times it was not very close, but one morning he moved just about all the way in
our lane head on at 55+mph.  We had 4 or 5 in the pace line and let me tell you
he came VERY close.  We all had to check our shorts after.  He was so close I
could tell he was smoking with one hand, one hand on the wheel and he had a
blue shirt with his name on the side (no I could not read the name, but you get
the point) the shirt looked a lot like a shirt a mechanic would wear.  So for
the next few days
whenever I was out driving or riding my bike I would look at all the shops in
town to see if I saw the blue truck.  What do you know….he works just down the
street from where I work.  So I parked my car, took a pic of his plates with my
cell phone and sent it to a HP officer buddy of mine in another county.  He ran
the plates but no luck.  So the next day I explained what happened to another
HP buddy of mine that works out at the Y here in town.  He was very upset and
wanted to know details of the truck, where it happened and what time.  The very
next day he parked his car near the spot and waited for this guy to head to
work.  He pulled over a blue truck that matched the description and ran the
plates…..expired tags.  (so now you know why the other HP officer could not
find him in the system)  this gave the officer a reason to question the guy.
Long story short the guy never denied doing it and the officer put the fear of
god in him..
Oh and he also gave him a tic for the tags. Lol
I think after this morning I will tell the officer when I see him again at the
Y about the “salute” . Maybe our friend in the blue truck needs a reminder that
we BELONG on the road.  If this guy ever does anything to any of you on the
bike please let me know.  The officer knows his name, where he lives and where
he works.

On a mostly cloudy morning that felt much more like summer than last week a
strong herd of 5; Ronnie, DC, C. Bolt, Steve S and LR rolled out of DD and did
what I call a "Blue Plate Special".  Nash, Hornes Church (we were saluted by
our blue truck friend), Williams, Old Smithfield, Graham Brantley, Old Bailey
Hwy, 97, Sugar Hill, Thompson Chapel and back in on Nash.  A quick tempo today,
21 miles at 21 avg. which never saw the pace much over 24 and only dipped below
21 for intersection.  All shared the work on the front and the group held
together in solid tight formation.

Ronnie is clearly tapering for the BSG this weekend, and he looks ready.  DC
pealed off at Packhouse on the way in for extra miles solo.  No smoking tires
today, he was in diesel mode.  Steve S is clearly building for Buckhorn (we may
need to get him tested).

Strong, group and a great way to start the day!
