Great job Steven. Those climbs are pretty legendary around the Western
Carolinas. They make Caesar’s Head look like a little hill .

Kinnie...The ride was in the mountains between Greenville, SC and
Hendersonville, NC. Steven did the Hincapie Gran Fondo (first year) that
covers some of George’s training hills; he lives in Greenville, SC during the
off season.

I also ment to say that there were a lot of leaves on the road. I lost
traction at point and almost crashed. Thank the Lord I was able to recover.
There were also a lot of blown tires do to over heating rim's. Gotta feather
those breaks. Idk. Anyway. Great day on the bike.

I finished the Grand Fondo. 80 miles and 8200 feet of climbing. I finished in
5 hours and 57 mile of ride time. Longer for the sag stops. I didn't spend much
time at the stops. Had three big climbs. First was Skyuka a cat 1 climb 1813
feet in 4 miles 8.7% avg grade. Saw some 18% here and there. Howard Gap cat 2
climb, 1.4 miles 824 feet with a 11.4% avg grade!!!!! No switch backs just
straight up. I had to weave back and forth across the road to make it up. Had
some 20% for very short spots on that one. The last climb was Green River Cove
cat 5 climb 2.4 miles with 971 feet only 7.5%.. Got very steep at the top I had
to stand for the switch backs half way up.. I was getting very tired at this
point. Many people saged in and a lot walk the climbs. I was able to ride all
of them. Never walked the course. There were times my back was killing me and I
had to stretch it out. Great ride and was very professionally done. I got to
meet Chris Carmicheal and spend some time with him. Most of route was closed to
traffic and had ride marshals and sheriffs blocking traffic at all
intersections. Down hills were very fast and technical. Wind keep speed down on
some of them. I hit 41.4 mph as a max. Would have done more but the wind was
really blowing hard. I did the whole thing solo. I couldn't seem to find a
group I fit in with. I did see spend some time with some old friends from
Carmicheal. I had a great time but I'm very very tired.
Lucas, I don't know how u do it. Last 10 miles I was give slam out and need
food badly. They gave out a new BMC bike to the winner and cash money to the
top riders. No I didn't even come close. Will send Garmin report when I get
home.

Four brave souls, Doc, Weatherman, Bob L and I left DD shortly after 7:30
determined to spit in the face of Sandy and steal a ride. One third Belgian
with winds ene steady 15 gusting over 20.
Hwy 58, bend of the river, s. Halifax through elm city. Weatherman and Bob
did most of the head wind work. Heading in on s. Halifax, 301 and lake Wilson,
wheeeeee!
Great day to be on the bike.
