A large group met at DD for today’s spirited ride. Lula, Doc, the Kaiser, the Lawyer, Chickentoes, Stardude, the Weatherman, MTB Dan and Bob L welcomed back the General from his 3 month hiatus from cycling. Chris announced that he is a new granddad as his daughter delivered a healthy girl recently. After a relaxed beginning through the neighborhoods out to 301, the pace picked up slightly to Frank Price Road. Once the turn was made, the hammer was put down with Ronnie and the General pushing the pace to 25+. The group pushed on to Lucama via Alton Road at a more relaxed 20-22 rolling speed. Nick attacked on a hill into town and it turned into a sprint to the convenience store. After a brief break with discussions of newly welcomed (Lula) or impending grandkids (Doc), the group used a slight tailwind to enjoy Radford Road, 42 and Airport Road. The Kaiser did his usual high speed leadout (I think we hit 30 mph) to the base of Target Hill with 6 or 7 riders in tow. The jersey went to Chickentoes. The group relaxed the pace through the neighborhood heading back to DD. Chickentoes has earned another nickname – Leaf cruncher – because he plowed through a leaf pile on the side of the road. 33 miles at a 19.6 average on a beautiful day to ride.
