Converts quantities expressed in various scales to their
equivalents in other scales.
Handles multiplicative scale changes as well as nonlinear conversions
such as Fahrenheit to Celsius or wire gauge.
Comes with an annotated, extendable database defining 7000+ units,
including 170+ nonlinear units, and 125 prefixes, using 10 systems of
units including SI.
Also comes with updatable data for 180+ currencies, bitcoin and precious
metals prices, plus US CPI Consumer Price Index, which may all be
updated using units_cur.
To update currency exchange rates, commodity prices, and US BLS CPI,
run units_cur at the command line, in a profile or rc startup script, or
in a *daily* cron job.
Do *NOT* run units_cur more frequently than daily, as currency exchange
rates and commodity prices are updated only at most weekdays, and
excessive requests from units users could cause free access to accurate
online sources be stopped.

The following package has been upgraded in the Cygwin distribution:
- units 2.25-2
A native Windows binary distribution should also soon be available:
https://ftpmirror.gnu.org/units/windows/units-2.25-setup.exe{,.sig}
For changes since the previous Cygwin release see below or read
/usr/share/doc/units/NEWS after installation.
2025-02-01 2.25-2
Add patch to fix currencies and prices updater script units_cur as
Bitcoin â¿ and precious metals Silver Ag, Gold Au, Platinum Pt prices
service URLs recently required a slash added to return requested data.
2025-01-18 2.25
- Changed units_cur to ignore invalid CPI data
- Add support for multivariate functions
- Because comma is used for multivariate functions, the comma is no
longer allowed in unit names.
Four units whose names contained the comma were renamed with an
underscore replacing the comma.
Affected units: lambda_C,p; lambda_C,n; lambda_C,mu; and lambda_C,tau.
- Extended (hyperbolic) trigonometric functions to include secant, csc
cot, sech, coth, csch and their inverses.
- Added some multvariate units like windchill, heatindex, bmi, hypot
- Added "search _" to list the run-time variables (which start with _)
- Added --list-units (noniteractive) and "search ." (interactive) to
list all unit definitions.
