Cygwin currently uses OpenSSL 3.0 LTS, which has a planned EOL of September 2026. The update to the new 3.5 LTS will most likely happen in the next month or two, most likely based on version 3.5.5 w/ Fedora 43 or rawhide patches, depending on how extensive the work on adapting to Cygwin turns out to be this time around.
This release provides the latest OpenSSL 3 LTS release and uses the Fedora 39 patches (without FIPS and foreign CPU architecture support). OpenSSL includes a certificate management tool and shared libraries which provide various cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
