But that's misleading -- because it DOES find the hierarchy: all of the stuff I 'require in my .xemacs/init.el are successfully loaded. Starting xemacs with '-debug-paths' shows that XEmacs hierarchy.configure-package-path is

looks like a typo: xeamcs => xemacs
