Thanks Yaakov - I feel so foolish. That's the bit I was missing...!

Agreed - but in a previous post you made a point of saying that the steps
needed to be followed exactly, so I was puzzled to find that one of the most
important steps was missing from the list.

A few other problems / confusions cropped up along the way so it might be
helpful to others if the instructions can be clarified. Otherwise, you'll
probably keep getting asked these same questions, namely:-

1) Regarding the long shell command, is this a *one-time* process or do you
have to run that command each time you want to install from the cygwin-ports
download? (the reason I'm asking this will become clear in #5).

2) Should one include the backslash at the end of the first line or is that
merely to indicate a line break?

3) If it's to be included, should there be any whitespace between it and
the following quotation mark?

4) When the long command gets run, should the user see anything in his
console? In my case, after hitting 'Enter' I was returned to the command
prompt without any indication of whether the command succeeded or failed.

5) Although I selected 'libsndfile; and 'jack-audio-connection-kit', only
libsndfile got installed. This morning I've tried again to install jack by
clicking on all the options, including the devel versions and libjack0. I
click the Src and Bin fields, where appropriate and the installer tells me
that XXX Mb will be installed. It even goes through the motions - but jack
never gets installed. I didn't run the long shell command again. Should
I have done?

Thanks for all your help with this,

John
