Same problem exists in 1.5, since it's xwin specific: Using the no-titlebar hint is quite straightforward, but the sequence of events in window setup means that we don't draw titlebar-less, shaped (non-rectangular) windows correctly. I have patch sets for xserver 1.5 and current X.org git.
