Thank Yaakov.  I saw that the update had been posted so I updated vte and
vte2.90, but it seems to have had no effect.
I made sure to get rid of the vte and vte2.90 residing in /usr/local/bin that I
built myself (as well as cygvte-9.dll and cygvte2_90-9.dll from the same
directory), and I even rebooted my machine, to no avail.  There must be
something else I'm not thinking of.
