Hmm... I wonder if that might be it... I previously had Cygwin 1.1.? and
upgraded to Cygwin 1.1.8, and both versions exhibited the problem.  You say
that a pty race has recently been fixed?  That could be it...

I've never installed a snapshot, but I'll give it a try and report back.
