if only our politicians would dig that, the european branches of several
large US companies (especially in the credit card business) would be
bancrupt over night. unfortunately, business is more important than
privacy, so the "euroweenies" are currently negotiating with the US to
allow for data transfer even though the US refuses to sign an
international treaty about privacy...
