The service in question is the company's "My.MP3.com" service which features software that enables customers to upload previously purchased CD's to the company's "storage lockers" for later access. MP3.com copied and stored a database of 80,000 CDs. The lawsuit will mark an important precedent in determining how far Internet companies can stretch existing copyright rules in attempts to find new ways of distributing music online. Luckily however, digital music on the Internet is still protected by personal and educational laws, allowing people to copy and listen to music as long as it not for commercial use.
