Still here, after 30 years. Intel doesn't have quite the talent that MS
does. Also, MS can actual ship product, even when it isn't very good.
The main difference though, is that all the same programs will run on an
AMD, Cyrix, IDT, Rise, VIA, or Transmeta chip as on an Intel chip. Since
Intel isn't trying to sell software, they publish the entire interface
and can't change it on a whim. Microsoft keeps large sections of the
interface internal and changes it regularly. The latter is often good
from a technical standpoint, certainly people wish they could fix many of
the issues with the x86 instruction set, but from a business standpoint
it's suicide. Or in the case of MS, since they build apps too, murder.
P.S. I bet Dell's really unhappy now. Have they received their P!!!1g
of the week yet?
