I didn't find the time to look into this any deeper. I'm not sure it will get fixed, because a) the bug itself is a lot older than rc1, and b) the comment sounded more like "the fix might be similar to what we did here". I think we should still open a new bug. Given that you experienced the problem, could you do that?
