Edgar, Thank you for sharing this trip to the Czernowitz cemetery. Even though I could not understand the commentary, I enjoyed the visuals. Did you add in the music that accompanied it Very haunting, but lovely. I appreciate the many things you pass along to this group!

Do you feel like attending a deferred film premiere after almost three decades? From the depths of the archives of my late father Julius Hauster, who passed away twenty years ago, I have brought VHS video cassette to light, had it digitized and uploaded it to our Ehpes blog: http://ehpes.com/blog1/?p=11068 Apparently, this film was made in 1992 with the participation and on behalf of Anna Barth's son. We see the extraordinary filmmaker Boris Dratva, the tireless film chronicler of "our" city of Czernowitz. KEYWORDS • Commentary by Anna Barth's son, who is visiting Chernivtsi from [Venezuela] in May 1992 • Interview with Boris Dratva • Interviews with Holocaust survivors • Vandalism at the cemetery • Spanish, Bukovinian German, Yiddish, Russian HEADSTONES [in order of appearance]: Anna Kahane • Ruchel Kramer • Mali [?] Rosenberg • Golde Hecht • Anna Barth • Israel Schorr • Aron Moses Weissman • Mortco Kirmayer • Berl Brandmann • Abraham Gewürz • Gusta Baar • Simon Leiser Kinsbrunner • Bertha Kinsbrunner, née Schimmel • Sidi [?] Herman • Dora Kuppermann • Nathan Tropper • Emanuel Salter, Kamena • Elias Kampelmacher • Markus Kampelmacher • Dr. Benno Straucher • Fany Straucher Rosenstraus • Dr. Eduard Straucher • Marie Fischer-Straucher • David Tittinger • Berta Goldenberg • Pepi Trichter • Josef Steiner • Babette Steiner, née Kraus • Emil Steiner • Samuel Dankner • Calman Fischer • Chawe Hudel Krell • Markus und Dora Gewürz • Samuel Hechler [?] / Mechler [?] • Bruno Tittinger • Dr. Ludwig Chaies • Helene Rosenkranz • Aron Rosenkranz • Dr. Leo Rosen • Henriette Rosenzweig • Anna Zirl Abeles • Leon Abeles • Chaim Rosenzweig • David Altmann • Rose Altmann, née Luft • Berta Eisenberg, née Altmann • Jonas Grabstein • Salomon Goldschmidt • Rosa de Anhauch • Berl und Brane Rudel • Eliezer Steinbarg • Betty Bursztyn Don't miss and enjoy this unique film document from the year 1992! Edgar Hauster Czernowitzers... It is our friend Daniel Katz who brought the project "The Nazi Collaborator Monument Project • Nazi Collaborator Monuments in Romania" to my attention and it is Daniel who unswervingly represents our interests in front of the Romanian authorities. In this context I have posted the latest publications of FORWARD and www.info-sud-est.ro at our Ehpes blog: http://ehpes.com/blog1/?p=11080 Here you'll find for download the verdicts against the main war criminals, to take the wind out of the sails of the numerous Holocaust deniers in Romania. These insult us as anti-Romanians, while the war criminals are stylized as heroes of the Iron Guard. Let's contribute everything to erase the the names of the war criminals from the streetscape in Romania and elsewhere! Edgar Hauster Hi Bruce,Though my grandmother's monument in the Jewish cemetery of Galati Romania existed, it was in a horrible shape and I reconstructed it by hiring a local constructor who did the job in a few days. Some of you know mepersonally, others have been in touch with me for guiding andorganizing Jewish heritage tours (that's what Inormally do in Central and Eastern Europe). However, this is not whatI am writing for.As youwill see, it is something that I will NOT gain any profit from.Otherwise I would not have dared to send the message to the list.I amwriting now in connection with a project I always wanted to do, butnever had time for. But now, because of the pandemic, it waspossible. I will try to keep it short. Some timeago I found the original architectural plans of the CzernowitzTemple, in an old Austrian architectural magazine (I think someonealso posted about it some time ago). I wanted to print these, as Ifound them incredibly beautiful, but the quality and the resolutionwas bad. Last yearI convinced an architect friend to redraw the whole facade of theTemple, according to those plans. I find the result amazing! I workeda lot afterwards to find a suitable printing workshop and after manytests I found the very best one in Bucharest, one that is normallyworking with top photographers and art galleries. Thequality of the print is just wow! The owner found this projectfascinating and agreed to do the job and work with me. Not verylong ago I put them on etsy.com for sale. This is the plan: first Iwant to pay my architect friend for the huge work he has doneredrawing it, so that I can convince him afterwards to redraw anotherlost/ destroyed synagogue. The rest of the profit made will bedonated to a Jewish restoration or social project in Chernowitz. Idon't expect the profit to be huge, I only hope that I can keep itgoing with another synagogue, and another one, and so on, and in theprocess also help some other Jewish restoration orsocial projects in Eastern Europe. My parentshave been best friends with the grandson of Cantor Gedalie Gurman, murdered by the Nazis on the banks of the river Pruth, outside ofCzernowitz. His name was Daly Gurman, born in Constanta, Romania. Acharming man, I've known him since I was a little boy (I am 40now). He passed away 7 years ago in Bucharest, may his memory be ablessing. His daughter is living in Romania. One of Daly's aunts andGhedalie's daughters, Sonja, became a well-known actress at the StateJewish Theatre in Bucharest. So, thisis it, I hope you find it useful and interesting. This isthe link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/JewishFineArtPrints?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=864138070 Have agood day, Alex Dear JulianThank you for this moving report. As I am translating / writing my mother’s memoirs (she was born in Lentesti near Czernowitz in 1918 and died in London) these reminiscences are very soecial to meBest wishes Karin Perrin Sent from my iPhone On 14 Apr 2021, at 17:03, Julian Rubin <[email protected]> wrote: Hi Bruce,Though my grandmother's monument in the Jewish cemetery of Galati Romania existed, it was in a horrible shape and I reconstructed it by hiring a local constructor who did the job in a few days.
