I also found that under the new laws obtaining Austrian citizenship was 
straightforward. My father was born in Vienna, left after the Anschluss, and 
fortunately kept all his papers. I also gave the Embassy some of his school 
photos and even a photo of my grandfather in WW 1 military  service which they 
actually forwarded with the application.
