Czernowitzers...

Tonight, for the first time, there was an air raid alert in Czernowitz;
fortunately, no bombs fell, but the local people are, of course, most worried.
Last night ARD, the leading German TV station, ran a report on Ukraine in which
our friend Dr. Oxana Matychuk Germanist, a lecturer at the Chair of Foreign
Literary History at the University of Czernowitz, a cultural manager and
director of the NGO "Zentrum Gedankendach": [www.gedankendach.org] commented as
follows:

https://www.daserste.de/information/wissen-kultur/ttt/videos/ukraine-video-104.html

"We are simply dealing with a paranoid person in the Kremlin, now that doesn't
sound politically correct, but now is not the time for political correctness
either.

[...]

Let's imagine for a moment that other states that used to be empires were also
making such claims. I wonder how far back you go. Imagine Mongolia would
remember the great Monglian Empire, imagine someone would want to restore the
Roman Empire now. It probably sounds absurd to you, to me too!

[...]

If Ukraine should capitulate, which I don't like to imagine, but if Ukraine
should come under the protectorate of Russia, I can't imagine living in this
country anymore."

Let's contribute with our solidarity for Ukraine so that Oxana and many, many
others don't lose their homeland.
