Czernowitzers...

Last Friday I informed you about the fundraising campaign that IKGS at
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München together with the NGO Zentrum
Gedankendach in Czernowitz have launched. Now, just four days later, the amount
of over EUR 27,000.00 = USD 30,000.00 (WOW!) has been donated and the first
relief supplies are already on their way, including sleeping bags, sturdy
winter boots and radio equipment.

This fundraising campaign directly benefits the people of Czernowitz. The
partners involved vouch for the seriousness of the campaign, and so do I! In
the beginning there was only one German bank account in Munich, meanwhile
donations can be made with a few clicks via PayPal. Please support the people
in Ukraine, our friends in Czernowitz in their fight for their lives and
freedom.

The commitment of the first days is overwhelming and I would like to thank
everyone who contributed!

Czernowitzers...

Dr. Oxana Matiychuk is a Germanist, a lecturer at the Chair of Foreign Literary
History at the University of Czernowitz, a cultural manager and director of the
NGO "Zentrum Gedankendach": www.gedankendach.org - and first and foremost a
good friend from Czernowitz. Her doctoral thesis "Genesis of the Poetic Text in
the Work of Rose Ausländer" was the first study in Ukraine on the life and work
of "our" prominent poetess.

I was in touch with her today to see if and what I / we can do to assist the
people of Ukraine in this catastrophic situation. Oxana reports as follows:

"It is still quiet here. I think we are just later in Putin's plans. [...] Many
refugees are now in the city, many want to continue to Romania, but very many
stay, all dormitories and other shelters are prepared for them. We have started
a fundraising campaign, at the moment we are thinking mainly of refugees who
are coming. But I'm sure there will be many more needs."

The bank details of the Institute for German Culture and History of Southeast
Europe (IKGS) at LMU Munich are:

IBAN: DE23701500000907271407
BIC: SSKMDEMMXXX
Munich City Savings Bank

The IKGS - me too - vouches for the fact that the donations come to the correct
address. It will still have to be clarified how the transfer can take place. I
am grateful to Oxana that I got an opportunity to make a small contribution,
even if it was only a financial one, in spite of all consternation and
helplessness.

We stand with the People of Ukraine!
