Rose Ausländer died in Düsseldorf 35 years ago today. I discover this quite by
chance as I am currently reading a book by the great poet from Czernowitz. I
find short prose work in the blurb:
"Krokodiltränen
Ich salze meine Suppe mit Krokodiltränen. Das Krokodil, ein
Geburtstagsgeschenk, liegt in der Küche und weint, weil ich nicht koche, was es
gern frisst: Menschen. Ich füttere es mit Literatur. Es verschlingt alles, was

I salt my soup with crocodile tears. The crocodile, a birthday present, lies in
