As my late Czernowitzer father, Yehudi Fichman, used to say, quoting his late
father, may her memory be as a blessing. What a loss to all.

Czernowitzers...
It's with great sadness to read on the passing of our dear friend and member,
Sylvia de Swaan. Sylvia lived an extraordinary and full life. I will cherish
the moments meeting with her face to face, listening to her discuss her story
of survival, like in June 2015 and in August 2016:

She was an invaluable a true Mentsh. She will be missed.

Dear Friends,
Many of you will remember Sylvia de Swaan, a very active member of our group
several years ago, who was born in Czernowitz in 1941. I’m very sad to let you
know of Sylvia's passing in early December, 2023. Despite the loss of her
father and other family members during the war, she survived along with her
mother and sister, and went on to live a wonderful life as an artist in New
York City, Mexico City, New Orleans, and finally upstate New York since 1975.
Several years ago, she traveled back to Bukovina with our wonderful chronicler
and photographer, Christian Herrmann.
You can read more about Sylvia here. She will truly be missed by many.
