Correction: I meant to suggest that you check your Hebrew calendar dates; not the Gregorian dates.

But please double check your Gregorian dates. We can’t be talking about 5 Tevet 5659. Chanukah always begins on the evening of 24 Kislev. The first day of Chanukah is always 25 Kislev (no matter the year of the Hebrew calendar). The Boian cemetery still exists but to my knowledge has never been indexed. Perhaps Mordechai is buried there. Last pictures I saw showed a cemetery overgrown with vegetation. Unfortunately it can’t be him. In the diary Pinus writes on September 14th, 1900 that his father died the previous year on the first day of Channukah. There is another part when he mentions that his mother lived without her husband for 35 years when she died on Yom Kippur of 1933. If I base my search on the Gregorian calendar he died on November 26th, 1899. However, if Pinus was correct about the 35 years Mordechai died in 1898. Then it was December 8th, 1898. In the Hebrew calendar that date is 5 Tevet 5659. The Hebrew date of the diary entry is 20 Elul 5660. If he writes that his dad died last year it makes perfect sense according to the Hebrew calendar even though in the diary he uses the Gregorian date. We are looking for a Mordechai Rubinstein that died in Sadagora or Boyan or even Czernowitz on December 8th, 1898 or 5 Tevet 5659.
