Hi there, we are trying to find out more about the father of Pinus, Mordechai/Ben Saar Rubinstein. We located the grave of Pinus & Leon’s mother Sara Rubinstein on the Jewish cemetery in Czernowicz. She died on Yom Kippur of 1933. All we know about the father Mordechai is that he died on Hannukah 1898 or 1899. This is written on the first pages of Pinus‘ diaries. According to various sources, the family lived in or somewhere around Sadagora or Boian, and since Mordechai‘s death is mentioned in the beginning of the diary he probably didn’t die in Czernowicz. The family moved there some time later.
Another problem is that Ashkenazy names could be written differently, depending on the source. I found various versions of the name „Rubinstein“ that were all attributed to the same person: Rubinshtein, Rubinshteyn. Also, if Mordechai had a second name unknown to us it could make the search harder. Like Pinus‘ son whose name was also named Mordechai, but is also known as Max or Maks.
