OK, I was a bit optimistic. Besides having a few other things come
up, I've found a few bad assumptions in some of the logic for the
code that determines structures. There are some assumptions that hold
for some backends and not others. I hope to be able to dig into this
more today, but I don't know when I'll have a fix.
