I didn't think you were being rude, not at all! You are absolutely correct that I need to read up on Unicode a little bit beyond the basics. I think from a practical standpoint I'm going to treat my issue yesterday as a rarity (first time this has happened in almost 3 years of 20-70 customers using the app every day), and be content that we fixed the exception raised when merely trying to report the error.
