        It's really hard to learn a language unless you have to produce  
working code. Make sure that you aren't just listening to someone  
talk or looking at them code; the students should be actively coding.

        SPE is great; it has better object resolution than Dabo's editor,  
and although not perfect, the autocomplete comes in handy.

        However, I do almost all my coding on a Mac, using BBEdit. I also  
use TextMate because it has some really cool features.

        On Linux I generally use Kate, which has a lot more useful features  
than gedit. On Windows I generally use the Dabo Editor.

        Oh, and when I use a text editor at the terminal, I use joe. I like  
it better than vi, emacs, pico, or any of the more popular editors.
