'Stable' means something different than 'actually works'. Only
simple fixes, such as syntax errors, ever get back-ported to the
stable branch. Poor functionality will remain in the branch until we
get to our next full point release.
Do you have Subversion installed on your machine? If not, I'd
recommend TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/), which allows
you to use Subversion right from Windows Explorer file listings. This
way you can use the current version, which actually works.
