        I can't follow from what you've posted what isn't working correctly.  
But if you're going to handle the connection, you should follow the  
same approach as all the other bizobj methods.

def someDbAction(self):
        isTransactionManager = self._getTransactionToken()
        if isTransactionManager:
                cursor.beginTransaction()

        ... do your data stuff

        if isTransactionManager:
                cursor.commitTransaction() or cursor.rollbackTransaction()
                self._releaseTransactionToken()
