Same comment as I just made to Paul. Global import and export of
shapefiles, loose tables or databases is an option but adds to the
workflow of a project.

This certainly seems to be the way I kept getting pushed when ever I try
and resolve the shapefile issue. I am not keen however in creating an
enormous reference and transitory file database of geospatial data that
I will need to manage. Shapefiles have their advantage in they are
localised and can be stored in the project directory. I could probably
create a separate PostgreSQL+PostGIS database for every project but this
is excessive. All existing GIS packages still read shapefiles it is just
their table editing solutions are quite primitive.

SQLLite has the option of having localised files in project directories
but I am not sure how easy it will be to import/export dbase so it does
not add significantly to the workflow. If I could do this
programmatically, either with scripts or dabo, this would be good.

There has been a push of late to make SQLLite Spatially aware but as
this is a new area few of the FOSS GIS are setup to interact with these
tables -- at best you can get data in but not out. I need both directions.

Cheers Simon
