I looked again and now I see the update option to git remote: fetch from all
remote
branches.
So, you should be able to do that. In fact, I just did:
mac-2:dabo pmcnett$ git remote update
Fetching origin
remote: Counting objects: 54, done.
remote: Compressing objects: 100% (25/25), done.
remote: Total 44 (delta 30), reused 33 (delta 19)
Unpacking objects: 100% (44/44), done.

mac-2:dabo pmcnett$ git branch

master
working
mac-2:dabo pmcnett$ git checkout working
Previous HEAD position was 7f7ccf7... Tag Dabo 0.9.5
Switched to branch 'working'
Your branch is behind 'origin/working' by 12 commits, and can be fast-forwarded.
(use "git pull" to update your local branch)

Note that I needed the 'git pull' to actually get the new commits merged into my
working tree ('git merge' or 'git rebase' would have also worked).
