Maybe remove the recommendation on the dabodev.com website to use
"wxPython 2.9 or higher"?

Yes, please install wxPython 2.8.12.1 (the latest stable release). wxPython 2.9
is
their development branch and there are currently several problems keeping Dabo
from
working well on wxPython 2.9.
