Bava Basra 012: Yavam
Barry Epstein <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> asked:
My notes say that a yavam receives a double portion in his father's estate;
his own and his dead brother's. If his dead brother was a first born, does
he receive a triple portion?
Barry Epstein, Dallas, USA

The Kollel replies:
Most of the Rishonim are of the opinion that the Yavam only gets double
from the father's estate if the father died before the brother, in which
case he is actually inheriting his *brother*. Since his brother who died
already received the extra portion, the Yavam will get the extra portion as
well.
