Why would Facebook permit this, once they figured it out, since their business 
model is predicated upon building a social graph and then mining it?

And of course, all the layer-7 worm/exploit traffic would be encrypted, too, 
which blinds detection/classification within the communications bus (in this 
case, Facebook).  Overencryption is a serious security issue, and is only 
growing worse, IMHO.
