A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

In today's Gospel Jesus uses the parable of the seed, seemingly
sprouting and growing of itself, to describe the nature of God's
kingdom. We know that as it is with the seed, the kingdom is impelled
to grow and produce fruit through God's unseen, mysterious life-force
pervading this universe. What appears too small to be of any
significance can, under God's sovereign power, become of great
importance.

Like the tiny seed, each of us, under God's rule, can be transformed,
produce a yield for God's harvest of souls. But to do so, we must
remain firmly implanted in Christ who nurtures our new life. Seeds
grow and mature by taking in the sun, rain and nutrients in the soil;
our new life will likewise thrive if we absorb Christ's teachings,
His love and truth, and integrate them in our lives. Through us,
others can be drawn into Him.

In the second paragraph of this Gospel, we learn that God's kingdom
begins on earth with God's Word, a seemingly small and insignificant
seed, being planted. By God's power it grows to a vast size,
attracting, giving shelter and protection to all those making their
home in its branches.
