A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

". . . but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

St. Paul tells us that the greatest of all the God-given gifts is
love. Although faith and hope are the foundation stones of religion,
they last only as long as we live on earth. They will become
unnecessary and dissolve once we cross over into eternity; for then
we shall see "face to face" Him in whom we have placed all our faith
and hope.

Love is eternal; it is the very essence of God Who will recognize and
welcome us as family if He sees His love within our hearts. Those who
love genuinely and sincerely can say that they possess God and that
God possesses them; their humanity is perfectly realized, for He
created us to be vessels filled to overflowing with His Life, His
Love.

>From God's love within us, spring all those attributes that enable us
to live peacefully and joyfully in community: patience, justice,
generosity, kindness, compassion, mercy, gentleness, temperance.
Indeed, all who truly love, seek community so that they may give of
themselves to others; to these, joy is self-donation for the good of
others.

Why are divorce, cohabitation, abortion, contraception thievery,
murder, dishonesty so prevalent? Simply put, it is rampant because
our society lacks God, it lacks true love. The mass media has sold us
a cheap imitation of it, one that satisfies our desires while paying
no heed to how our behavior impacts others and weakens the very
fabric of our society.

     Blessed Lord,
give us Your Spirit of love,
that by grace we may learn to love genuinely and deeply. Amen
