A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
In today's scriptures we are called to offer God a sacrifice of
praise! This may mean for some people to sing, but Jesus is also
looking for something else. Bringing praise to God is also shown by
sharing the love He has for us with others who may be hurting in
mind, body and spirit. If Jesus truly is our gentle Shepherd, we will
never lack anything and we'll always have extra gifts from God to
give freely to others.
As we meditate on today's Psalm we can imagine a shepherd guiding his
sheep along a gentle rolling green hillside to a place where they
will be fed and have rest. We can also picture ourselves resting in
the presence of creation itself with sounds of a gentle brook, birds
singing and the voice of the Lord saying: "Come follow me, for I am
at your side forever."
Today in St. Mark's Gospel, we see that Jesus Himself took His
disciples to a quiet place. Yet, He also responded to the many people
who were in need, by teaching and healing, by showing Himself to be a
true servant of the Father -- an example for us all.
Jesus,
meek and humble of heart,
make our hearts like thine.
Amen.
