A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Jesus Christ is the Light of the world! The light of Truth that
shines for all men to see, believe, hope and trust in. At every Mass,
and as well at all celebrations of the sacraments (except
Confession), candles are lit to remind us of this Truth - to remind
us of Who is the Light; Who is truly present in the sacrament; of He
Who humbled Himself to share in our humanity, and Who continues to
graciously make Himself present to us until the end of time.
Emmanuel! God is with us! And as long as we accept Him, allow Him to
live and move and have His Being within us, we take His Light of
Truth to all we encounter in this life. We take Christ to the world!
Today, as we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord, I
am reminded of the words of Simeon - this man whom scripture
describes as being righteous, devout, with the Holy Spirit upon him:
"Now, Master,
you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word;
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and glory for your people Israel. Alleluia!
