A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

The reading from Deuteronomy sets forth a clear path for obtaining
many blessings. Moses told the people point blank: choose life and
prosperity, or death and doom. He pulled no hidden punches when he
further told them to obey the commandments, love the Lord and walk in
His ways. Then they would live and be blessed by God.

Today the message is for each of us just as it was in those ancient
times: to choose life in our Savior Jesus Christ. To live through
Him, with Him and in Him, trying our best to imitate the way He lived
when he walked among us. This is the way to the fullness of life!
Nothing sounds less appealing than to take up our cross and follow
Jesus every day (Luke 9:23). Each of us thirsts for the Lord; yet,
when we seek Him, we experience conflict because we really want to
continue doing what we do all year long, whether sinful or not.

What to do now? Lent is upon us! That precious time that the Lord
gives us to look within ourselves, to ponder what the God-Man, Jesus,
has done for us. How do we keep our Lenten promise? What can we
possibly do for Him, the creator of all there is? Prayer, reception
of the Eucharist, daily Mass, are ways to conquer our fears and
regain our hopes. Lenten devotions, parish missions, all holy
gatherings will fortify us. Go out of your way to be kind to all.
With God's grace, we can change those areas of our lives that we know
separate us from the love of Christ.

   Heavenly Father,
Help us to become closer to you this Lent than ever before.
Embrace us, allow us to feel your presence. Amen!
