A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
As we move through different seasons in the year, we may choose to do
a 'spring cleaning' in our homes, to cast out everything we have no
use for, to make our homes a fitting residing place for the next
period in our lives.
Lent gives us the opportunity to do a spring clean of our hearts and
souls. This is a wonderful time of grace and redemption. Jesus calls
us to approach Him with contrite hearts so that He can wash away our
sins.
How do we approach Him with contrite hearts? Amidst the bustle of our
daily lives, how do we come to acknowledge our need of forgiveness
and redemption. Only if we are in continuous union with Jesus through
prayer and fasting, will we appreciate the full impact of God's
redeeming love.
Many of us do not know how to pray or fast. Indeed, many of us during
this Lenten season will continue with our lives as before. Yet, we
must remember that Jesus calls for a radical departure from our past.
He calls us to renew our faith and trust in Him during this special
period of renewal.
Dear Jesus,
change our hearts this Lenten season.
Grant that we may acknowledge our faults and failings,
that we might desire a change of heart.
Let us desire to spend more time with you
and get to know you more
so that you might transform our lives forever.
Amen.
