A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
One of the loveliest phrases in the Old Testament is found in today's
first reading: "I will be their God and they shall be my people."
As this Lenten Season approaches its climax let us ponder to what
extent God the Father went, to make us His people.
He, the God of all Glory, let His Beloved Son die a cruel and
shameful death.
He allowed his Holy and Immaculate Son to be stripped of His garments
and the lewd eyes of His tormentors to leer at His pure and chaste
countenance.
He turned His back on His Son and let Him be nailed to a cross - arms
outstretched, so that to take a breath He had to push up with His
nailed feet and pull up with his nailed hands to raise His chest
muscles and fill His lungs with air.
Then, when Jesus had no more strength, God The Father, Creator and
Ruler of all living things, allowed His very own Son to die of
asphyxiation without ever lifting a finger to help or comfort or save
Him. God turned His back on Jesus who took our sins and nailed them
to death on the cross.
That's what the Father did so that WE could be His people.
What will we do to have God, as OURS?
Mediate on it this week.
