A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
"If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not." (John 11:37)
We have many modern twists on this truth, such as "actions speak
louder than words" or "do not as I say, do as I do." The readings for
today focus on our works and also our baptism. The reference is made
that Christ returned to the place where John baptized. "And He went
again beyond the Jordan into that place where John was baptizing
first, and He abode there. (John 11:40)
These two concepts are appropriately placed together as our actions,
those which assist our families, our jobs, community
involvement....all flow from our baptism. The waters of baptism never
stop flowing. Our lives are totally submerged in Christ, and our
actions flow accordingly.
It is appropriate in our spiritual life to return often to the place
of our baptism.....not the geographic place, but rather the spiritual
place. What a better place to rest, and claim as our abode!
