A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

"When Christ appears, then you too will appear with Him in glory."
(Colossians 3:4)

Last week we witnessed Christ's sacrifice on the cross, putting our
sin to death in His human flesh, winning for us the Father's
forgiveness and freeing us from evil's power. Jesus conquered
mankind's 'oppressor'; but we, by freely rejecting God's Word, can
cause ourselves to remain enslaved to sin, to become Satan's agents.

Today, Easter Sunday, God reveals to us that not only has He released
us from sin, but He has also removed from us the sting of death.
Christ's empty tomb foreshadows what awaits those who believe in and
remain faithful to His word. On the last day, when this world passes
away, we too, like Christ, will rise from our graves to receive new,
spiritual bodies (1 Corinthians 15:12-58) and be eternally freed from
the pain and grief to which our flesh had been heir. We will then be
saved SOUL and BODY, to participate in the glory that shown from
Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration, for we too will be
transfigured in His image.

When and how this will take place is known only to God. What
assurance do we have of this? It is promised by Christ; and God
cannot lie nor will His love for us ever cease. Just as seeds lying
dormant, entombed by winter, mysteriously and suddenly spring to life
in the light and warmth of the sun, so will our new life be quickened
by the coming of the Daystar, the Sun from heaven sent and given to
the world by the Father for our salvation.

     Victorious King,
          You have destroyed death;
          put to death within us
all that prevents our sharing Your victory
and being raised up with you on the last day. Amen
