A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Peter's address to the crowd surely caused shock and consternation
when he told them that this Jesus whom they had put to death on a
Cross was "Lord" and "Christ"! The word "Lord" meant one to whom one
owes dominion, absolute obedience, and loyalty to death. We say the
word so glibly that we have forgotten how absolute must be our
submission to Him IF we truly have accepted Him into our lives. Much
prayer and meditation must follow from this thought.

Then, too, His appearance to Mary Magdalene is such a wonderful
scene. We can certainly understand her impetuous embrace of Jesus,
this woman who loved Him so passionately in His earthly life. We tend
to be disappointed at His words to her that she not cling to Him. At
first thought, we say that we are not given that privilege of
physically touching the Lord. But...we really do touch Him physically
in the Eucharist, and He possesses us as completely as we will allow.
How difficult is our work of really finding the Lord -- penance for
sin, purifying of the senses, discipline of thought, word and action
-- and loving contemplation.

That will win us closeness. A new way of thinking, a new way of
loving. This is what Easter invites us to.
