A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

St. Peter Chanel, St. Louis de Montfort

In today's scriptures we see the Christian community starting to grow
and with this growth came challenges. There was a pull between
serving the people and serving the Word of God. As we live within our
Christians communities today we are faced with the same challenges
and also enjoy the same blessings just as the early Christians did.
One would draw great attention to how and why the apostles handled
things the way they did. The people they choose where spirit-filled
and had wisdom, but they also laid hands upon them and prayed for the
Holy Spirit to enter their lives.

Personal touch is very important. It expresses many wonderful things.
All through scripture we read of greeting each other with a holy kiss
or hug. Jesus himself always touched the person he healed. It shows
the love and compassion within our hearts when we hold someone's hand
when they are troubled or hurting. For some it may bring a sense of
fear to do something like this, but as we read today's Gospel we see
Jesus walking upon the water towards his disciples and they where
nothing less but terrified. Jesus calmly said "It is I, do not be
afraid." (Jn 6:20) So today, let us allow the living Christ dwell
within us, so that we might become the humble, compassionate hand of
Christ to those who are
troubled.
