A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
"You should not be working for perishable food. . ."
Every day we work and toil to have a house, to have a car, to have
food, to have a television, to have, to have, to have. Yes, many of
these things are critical to life. But sometimes in doing this work,
we miss the ultimate point of the work and life -- Jesus Christ.
It's difficult to carry your faith into the work place. But remember
that even as you work for the food you eat now, when you work with
Jesus at your side, you are working for that eternal food as well.
Jesus is ever our help, in work, at play. When we remember that Jesus
is the reason for our work, then earning our bread is prayer. When we
remember that our coworkers also are Jesus, then our work is prayer.
When we remember that the frustration of the day are gifts from God,
earning our bread is prayer.
There is nothing wrong with earning what we need -- God gives us that
opportunity. The failure comes when we do not look beyond what we
need here and now. Our greatest achievement is when we turn what we
must do anyway, into a gift for God by turning in love to look at Him
through all our toil.
