A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

The early Church grew almost sporadically. After Stephen's death,
many of the Christians around Jerusalem fled to surrounding areas,
and there preached the good news, mainly to the Jews. However,
Barnabas recognized the work of the Spirit in some Greek converts,
and welcomed them. The word "Christian" was first used, for they were
known by their adherence to Christ and His teachings. It was also
Barnabas who first drew St. Paul into active ministry. Paul had spent
several years in solitude and prayer after his dramatic conversion on
the road to persecute the Christians of Damascus.

Like those early Christians, we should be alert and sensitive as to
how the Holy Spirit is directing our ministry; what work needs to be
done and where it is needed. As we prepare for Pentecost, may we
daily seek the wisdom, the strength, and the enthusiasm of the Holy
Spirit to carry out His wishes.
